aBOUT US AND THE THEATER
Built originally in 1884 and in 1914 burned along with several other downtown businesses, the Thoroughbred Theater was rebuilt in 1916. Since the closing of the cinema in the 1950's the theater served as several businesses and a hardware store. In 2002 the theater was bought my Midway brothers, Jim and John McDaniel who wanted to save the theater. The brothers sold the theater in 2003 to Tony Moreno, who in 2004, renovated the theater from top to bottom.
The site now houses the 150-seat Historic
Thoroughbred Theater and is home to numerous
events and is the home of the Georgetown Exchange.
The Theater's doors are also open to the public for
venue rental, the ideal place to host special events,
concerts, performances,movies, receptions and
training events.
The Thoroughbred Theater is 94 years old!

Inside the Theater
Incorporated into the design of the Thoroughbred Theater are numerous historic elements from the areas most famous horse farms and equine attractions, including; railings from Churchill Downs, barn doors from historic Faraway farm- home of War Admiral and Man O’ War, stall doors and slate roofing from historic Hamburg Place, the ballroom doors from fabulous HopewellFarm. In 2009, the main lobby has been updated with the additon of two handicap accessible restrooms and fresh paint, which creates an inviting lobby for all.
